Awakening to a Higher Destiny


In one of the EnlightenNext salons at the Parliament, Rev. Michael Beckwith, founder and spiritual director of the Agape International Spiritual Center, recounted his own awakening to a higher power and purpose. He was joined by his wife Rikki Byars-Beckwith, a deeply spiritual woman and the director of Agape International Choir. Rikki shares the story of their initial meeting and how, through music, she came to find a deeper Truth she'd been searching for.

Biography

Rev. Michael BeckwithRev. Michael Bernard Beckwith is a world leader and teacher in the New Thought–Ancient Wisdom tradition of spirituality. He is the cofounder of the Association for Global New Thought (AGNT), and the Season for Nonviolence, which are based on his conviction in the deep spiritual nature of all people and his vision of one united human family.

In 1986 Dr. Beckwith founded the Agape International Spiritual Center, a transdenominational community which today counts a membership of 9,000. Agape's outreach programs feed the homeless, serve incarcerated individuals and their families, advocate the preservation of the planet's environmental resources, and support orphanages for children who have survived the ravages of war and AIDS.

As cofounder and president of AGNT, Michael Beckwith passionately calls, along with other co-creative thinkers, for an evolutionary leap in our thinking and our way of caring for our greater human family. He is a popular guest on television programs from Oprah to Larry King Live, teaches meditation, scientific prayer, and speaks in a wide variety of public forums. He is the originator of the Life Visioning Process, a time-tested technique offering its practitioners a method for putting a stop to being a passive tourist in one's life, one of the featured spokespeople on the bestseller The Secret, and has authored numerous books including Inspirations of the Heart .
