Ocean Robbins
Biography & Resources

Ocean Robbins, who recently turned thirty, has been an activist since the age of seven when he organized a peace rally in his elementary school. In 1990, when he was sixteen, Robbins co-founded YES!, Youth for Environmental Sanity, “Helping Outstanding Young Leaders Build a Better World.” Since then, YES! has reached more than 620,000 students in school assemblies, held 82 week-long camps for young activists and leaders from 55 nations, and helped to inspire the formation of more than 400 non-profit clubs and organizations working for positive change. Robbins has spent more than 14 years as primary fundraiser and administrator for this non-profit organization, which now has an annual budget of over $400,000. He has personally facilitated camps and workshops in Singapore, Costa Rica, Russia, Finland, Canada, the Netherlands, India, and across the U.S.

Robbins is co-author of Choices for Our Future: A Generation Rising for Life on Earth (1994). He has served on the Board of Directors for Friends of the Earth, Creating Our Future, EarthSave International, The Omni Center, and is a founding member of The Tide Turning Coalition. His ongoing efforts to help create a better world have been honored by many organizations, including the Giraffe Project (for people who stick their necks out for what they believe), the National Alliance for Animals (The Compassionate Youth Award), E Magazine (The Kid Heroes Hall of Fame), and EarthSave (Volunteer of the Year Award). In 2002, the Utne Reader recognized him as one of thirty “young visionaries” under 30. Both Time and Audubon magazines chose him as one of the heroes of the new millennium.

Robbins lives in the mountains of Santa Cruz, California, with his parents, Deo and John Robbins (author of the international bestseller Diet for a New America and founder of EarthSave), his wife Michele, and their identical twin boys, River and Bodhi.
