Carlos S. Alvarado, PhD, is currently an assistant professor
of research in psychiatric medicine at the Division of
Personality Studies of the University of Virginia. Educated
cross-culturally and across disciplines, he has a doctorate in
psychology from the University of Edinburgh, Scotland, an MA in
history from Duke University, a MS in parapsychology from John
F. Kennedy University in California, and a BA in psychology from
the University of Puerto Rico.
Dr. Alvarado has conducted research on the psychology and
features of out-of-body experiences and other parapsychological
phenomena in Puerto Rico, Scotland, and the United States. He is
also known for his reviews of the historical literature of the
field. He has twice served as president of the Parapsychological
Association and is currently working at the Parapsychology
Foundation in the capacity of Chairman of Domestic and
International Programs, series editor of the Foundation's
Parapsychological Monographs, and associate editor of the
International Journal of
Parapsychology.
